The Drenth Memorial Foot Race

Saturday - July 25 - 9:00 a.m. - 2020

Race update: We are looking at a virtual race and if possible an in-person race (if executive order allows) for July 25th. The race will ONLY be 5K in length. If the in-person race happens there will be prize money. More information to follow. Thanks for your patience. Please remember that this race is 100% non-profit and benefits the Charlevoix Cross Country team and a scholarship in honor of Coach Pete Spieles. Stay tuned...

The 5K and 10K courses are fast, unique and picturesque. Each highlights the best Charlevoix has to offer:  running through areas of beautiful Earl Young mushroom style houses, along the channel connecting Lake Michigan to Lake Charlevoix, through the newly re-done East Park, and along the Belvedere Club. Finally, each race finishes in front of an enthusiastic crowd awaiting the start of the Venetian Festival Parade.

The Family Mile features an out and back course, which starts and finishes in beautiful downtown Charlevoix. This family friendly event can be enjoyed by all, including those in jogging strollers. This event also finishes just prior to the parade so plan on hearing plenty of encouragement. Each participant in this event will receive a medal!

The Ryan Shay Mile

Saturday - July 25 - 10:30 a.m. - 2020

The 2020 Ryan Shay Mile is canceled. We will be back in 2021 and look forward to elite athletes and spectators enjoying this one of a kind event next summer!  If the in-person 5K is held there will be limited prize money, but no elite athlete support (travel/housing).

This exciting elite event is in its 13th year and is already a destination for many top distance runners. Runners from around the country are invited to compete for $4,000 in prize money. The 2018 men's winner was Sam Prakel (3:58) and the women's winner was Shannon Osika (4:20).

The course is straight, flat, fast, and certified. Thousands of spectators line the course from approximately the half mile mark to the finish. Invited runners will be provided housing and possibly travel money. Those interested should click here for more information.
